CARTERVILLE Ill. (WSIL) -- An active weather pattern continues with a major flash flood threat tonight. Widespread 1-3 inches of rain has already fallen across western Kentucky and NW Tennessee. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will train over the same areas through the evening. A corridor of 5-8 inches of rain is possible along western Kentucky and NW Tennessee when all is said and done. This is already producing significant flash flooding and will continue to get worse through the evening. If you are under a flash flood warning and live by any body of water across these areas it is advised to seek higher ground. Places that don't normally flood could flood tonight and flooding could cause structural damage. This would include washed out roads and highways, businesses flooding and houses flooding. Please take the warnings seriously as the night continues.Â
February 15th evening forecast with Meteorologist Nick Boynton
On top of this threat we have the chance to see some severe storms over NW Tennessee and western Kentucky tonight as well. Strong winds and a brief tornado is possible. These winds could easily bring down many trees given the extremely saturated ground.Â
The backend of this system will have some moisture and cold air will be funneling in quickly tonight. This could allow a brief changeover to snow tonight for a brief time. This could cause an accumulation of up to an inch across the area and with the quick drop in temperatures, this could lead to some slick spots in the morning on bridges and overpasses.Â
