(WSIL) -- There are a lot of awesome kids in our area, and not all of them are scoring touchdowns or making baskets. They've given back to the community, inspired others, or might have invented something.
Meet 16-year-old Matthew McKinney from Vergennes.
Matthew has been in remission for the last six months from brain cancer and is a very optimistic kid. He always has a smile on his face, never meets a stranger, and tries to be ray of sunshine to anyone he comes in contact with.
On his wrist, Matthew wears a reminder of his strength - a wristband with the letters NEGU, which stands for Never Ever Give Up.
Matthew loves to fish and play chess, and this past weekend the Illinois chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation granted Matthew's wish by giving him a boat.
Matthew has such a great attitude and outlook on life, and he's our newest Wicked Awesome Kid of the Week.
If you know an awesome kid, nominate them , and please be descriptive in your nominations.
