2 new COVID-19 deaths in Jefferson County

MT. VERNON (WSIL) -- The Jefferson County Health Department has announced two people who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

One female and one male, both in their 80s died from the virus, according to a release from the department Sunday. They were both long term care facility residents.

The department did not announce any new cases today.

To date, the health department has recorded 84 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 9 deaths. 15 positive cases have been released from isolation.

Public Health officials expect more positive cases to be confirmed locally. The number of cases can be reduced by adhering to the stay at home order, washing hands frequently, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces, and maintaining space of at least six feet from others.
