CARBONDALE, IL (WSIL) -- The For Kids' Sake Superhero 5K Run/Walk is returning to host a hybrid race in September after over COVID-19.

Now in its 11th year, the event attracts hundreds to Carbondale for what is billed as "the largest Superhero-Costumed-road race" in our region.

This year runners can either take to the streets on race-day along with others, or sign up for the virtual option and log their run anytime between September 17th - September 25th.

Kids' Sake assistant director Ryan Edwards says it's their largest fundraising effort each year, which supports hundreds of kids in Bangladesh as rising costs increases their challenge.

"The fundraising and Superhero 5K here have actually never been more important, part of why we adopted the Superhero theme is the idea Superheroes save lives, that you go above and beyond your own needs to help those who really need it because it's the right thing to do," says Edwards. "And that's exactly what you do when you register, when you fundraise, is you're helping kids that otherwise would be really struggling to get their needs met."

The in-person road race is set to take place September 25th at Turley Park. , and to secure a t-shirt registrations must be in by September 12th.
