ROCKFORD (WREX) Many people have questions about the second dose of the vaccine, including can you still get the coronavirus after being vaccinated?

According to a Dr. Otavio Rodrigues from SwedishAmerican, it is still possible to get the virus after getting the vaccine. It usually takes two weeks after the second dose for an individual to be protected from the virus.

Right now there is no need for people to re-vaccinate but that might change in the future.

“If we do see a lot of people having a drop of protective antibodies, there might be a need in the future to re-vaccinate people, Dr. Rodrigues said.

The physician recommends that even after the two weeks following your second dose, you should still wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash you hands and avoid crowded places.
