CARRIER MILLS (WSIL) -- The Carrier Mills-Stonefort school district had to abruptly cancel classes on Friday due to positive cases of COVID-19.

Superintendent Bryce Jerrell says he received word of at least two positive cases on Thursday afternoon just before dismissal. This prompted the district to promptly cancel classes on Friday and designate it as a teacher in-service day. The students who tested positive were exposed to many students and staff members.

"I did not want to put any student, faculty, or staff at risk of a possible exposure this morning while we completed our contract tracing and testing," said Jerrell

Jerrell is currently working with custodial staff for deep cleaning and sanitation, as well as the district nurse on contact tracing.
