ALTO PASS, ILLINOIS (WSIL) -- A tradition continues in southern Illinois as the warm weather made for a beautiful backdrop during the Easter Sunrise Service at Bald Knob Cross of Peace
Sunday marked the 85th year for the service with hundreds of people returning for the in-person after COVID restrictions moved the event strictly to online last year.
Guests arrived from all across the state including one couple who drove from four hours north.
Gerald Holohan, from Cabery a town just outside of Kankakee, says they arrived Saturday night and camped outside the gates.
"It was definitely uplifting," he says. "It was a beautiful service, the preacher was very good, the music was excellent, I can't say enough about it."
The service included speakers, praise and music, and a few food trucks.
Bald Knob will host the in May as well as the Blessing of the Bikes.
