GALLATIN COUNTY (WSIL) -- Two new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Southern Illinois. The first case in Gallatin County and the fourth in Williamson County.
The individual that tested positive in Gallatin County is a female in her 60鈥檚 and is at home and in isolation according to the Egyptian Health Department. This is the first laboratory confirmed positive of COVID-19 in Gallatin County. Details on how the individual came down with the virus have not been released.
A woman in her 30鈥檚 also tested positive in Williamson County according to the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department. She is at home in isolation. This is the fourth laboratory confirmed positive of COVID-19 in Williamson County. The individual is thought to have been exposed to the novel coronavirus through community spread.
Public health officials have begun an investigation into both cases, and are speaking with individuals who the individuals may have been in contact with before being diagnosed.
As is protocol, public health officials may place other individuals on home quarantine if they are determined to have had significant exposure. Such individuals may not be symptomatic, but are quarantined for a period of time which allows symptoms to develop and pass, without posing risk to others.
