MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- If you're looking to adopt a furry friend local shelters are still doing them virtually.
Places like the Williamson County Animal Control have stopped adoptions due to COVID-19, but St. Francis Care says the virus is not keeping away future pet owners.
"As you can see, a couple just drove from Bloomington, Indiana to look at a dog. Everything's by appointment only," said St. Francis president Diane Daugherty.
Daugherty says all you need to do is fill out the application online.
"This is a perfect time to adopt because you're home. You know? It's time to train an animal," she said.
The Humane Society of Southern Illinois say there's been many inquires about forever homes.
"As far as our actual adoptions go, we've had a lot of increased interest as far as fostering, which is especially helpful during this time," said manager Julia Hayward.
Both say the community has been understanding about handling the adoption process outside.
"We have them sign stuff outside. If they need to stay in their car, that's fine, we can do it through the window and everything. We still want the animals to be going home during this kind of crazy time," said Hayward.
Although the shelter buildings are closed, both facilities say don't give up looking for a new fur baby.
"Once you're approved, we'll go through the process, you come out on this side of the caution line and we can set you up," said Daugherty.
