POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (WSIL) -- Butler County health officials spent most of their day inside the Black River Coliseum giving out vaccines.
The walk-thru vaccination began at 8 a.m. and lasted until 4 p.m. with the goal of dishing out 2,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
Tuesday marked the third such vaccination event in Poplar Bluff since February. It's the second held at the coliseum, according to U.S. Air Force Captain Drew Galucci.
These clinics allow troops to better monitor vaccinated patients versus sending workers to each individual vehicle Galucci says.
"We have a limitation for that 15-minute monitoring time," Galucci said. "We can only fit so many vehicles at once, and indoor we can process more people."
Goodin feels this type of event helps ease the burden on workers and makes the process a little quicker. Patients registering online ahead of time can also expedite the experience.
"I think having those appointments really does help. Our appointments are every 15 minutes so I think that does help," Goodin said.
The clinic also offered shuttle service for those unable to walk up the steep path to the building. This event is meant to give residents their first dose of the vaccine.
Residents will return for another walk-thru event in three weeks, or 21 days, for their second dose, as recommended for those taking the Pfizer shot.
