IDHS: 13 new cases of COVID-19 among staff at Chester Mental Health

RANDOLPH CO. (WSIL) -- Thirteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday among staff members at the Chester Mental Health Center.

The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) says 31 total staff members have tested positive since the coronavirus pandemic began. shows only four of the 31 have returned to work.

There are currently 259 patients at that Randolph County facility.

According to IDHS, two patients have tested positive for COVID-19; one has since recovered.

According to IDHS Communications Director Meghan Powers, the department did the following after learning of the new positive cases:

  • Met with IDPH and local public health to get their input. 
  • Closed meeting rooms, consults and meetings on phone.
  • Performed a deep cleaning.
  • Offered staff the less intrusive testing.Provided reminders about safe behaviors on and off work site.
  • Offered testing to all patients potentially exposed. 

Currently the Randolph County Health Department is monitoring 50 active cases of COVID-19. There have been a total of 342 confirmed cases, including 7 related deaths, in the county.
