IDPH: 1,527 new cases of COVID-19

SPRINGFIELD (WSIL) � The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has announced 1,527 new cases of COVID-19, including 104 additional deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 115,833 cases, including 5,186 deaths, in 100 counties in Illinois.

Within the past 24 hours, labs have conducted 25,993 COVID-19 tests for a total of 829,966. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from May 21–May 27 is 8.3%.

In southern Illinois, new cases were reported Thursday in Jackson (12), Perry (1), Union (5) and Williamson (2) counties.

In addition to the five new cases of COVID-19 in Union County, health officials also reported one additional death in the county, a man in his 90s.

Jackson County

  • Female â€� One preteen/teen, two in their twenties, three in their thirties, and one in her forties
  • Male - Three in their thirties, one in his forties, and one in his fifties.

Perry County

  • One male in his 50s

Union County

  • One female 10s, one female 30s, one male 30s, one male 60s, one female 70s

Williamson County

  • Females: One in their teens, and one in their 70’s

The Jackson County Health Department says, as of Thursday, there have been 260 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including ten deaths, in the county. Of those cases, 190 people have been released from isolation.

To date, there have been 42 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Perry County and 60 confirmed cases in Williamson County.

Local health departments say 38 individuals have been released from isolation in Perry County, and 45 have recovered in Williamson County.

In Union County, there have been 148 cases and eight deaths related to COVID-19. According to health officials, 38 individuals have recovered.
