(CNN) - Johnson & Johnson is asking the Food and Drug Administration to approve its COVID-19 booster shot.
J&J hasn't asked for a specific time interval to administer the booster. Instead, the company submitted data sets showing a second shot boosts immunity to 94% when given two months after the first dose, and boosts immunity response 12-fold when given at six months.
J&J said protection from its vaccine remains stable over time. That's in contrast to Pfizer, which told officials its vaccine's efficacy wanes over time. The FDA already approved Pfizer's booster, but only for specific groups, like people ages 65 and older.
The agency will consider whether to approve boosters from J&J and Moderna at the end of next week.
