CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said he finished his trial against China on Monday. Bailey says he is holding China accountable for unleashing COVID-19 on the world.

“Today, we hauled China into court to hold them accountable for unleashing COVID-19 on the world, said Attorney General Bailey. “Missouri is the only state in the nation to file suit to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for causing and exacerbating COVID-19. Today was a great day: the judge was engaged in our arguments and asked detailed questions. We feel confident that we will collect on the $25 billion we’re demanding in damages. And if China refuses to pay up, we will seize Chinese assets instead.

According to Bailey, the court stated he presented "An abundance of uncontroverted evidence" in that China harmed Missourians when COVID was released. Bailey said the judge is inclined to rule in Missouri's favor.

In 2020, Missouri sued China for the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, Missouri purchased, imported and exported medical equipment, along with personal protective equipment (PPE). Bailey said they are demanding remedies for $25 billion.

Bailey said China has yet to appear in court and says Missouri is favored in this case. However, Bailey says the court is expected to make a ruling in the coming weeks.

Bailey also noted in 2024, the Eighth Circuit gave an early win to Bailey against China. The ruling can be found .
