JACKSON CO. (WSIL) -- People from all walks of life have come together to help ease the stress caused by the pandemic.
Nine-year-old Violet Fager has been working hard to help raise money for a local food pantry.
"I heard that food pantries are really low on food, and a lot of people go to the food pantries so those people can't get there," said Fager.
That's when Violet took matters into her own hands and started selling her artwork for $3 a drawing. "I'm selling pictures to get the money for the food pantry, so they can buy food," she explained.
All the money raised is being donated to the Murphysboro Food Pantry. Director Megan Austin says they can use all the help they can get.
"We always are in need, especially around times like now, because we don't know what's going to happen in the future months. We're always looking for donations, big or little, doesn't matter, anything helps," said Austin.
Fager's art work has been a huge hit within the community. She had a goal of raising $100 and has already raised $680.
She's even going to donate some of her own money.
"I'm going to donate some of the money that the tooth fairy gave me and my birthday money, and my mom is going to give some too."
"I think one of the first things I want to do once this is all said and done is give her a hug, because it pulled at my heart strings when I first found out about it. It was just very inspiring and very encouraging to come from such a young lady," added Austin.
Fager said she just wants to encourage others to help those in need. The family suggests reaching out to your local food pantry to get information on how to donate or volunteer.
