DECATUR, Ill. (WREX) � Illinois Governor JB Pritzker says he’s “very hopeful� the state will see fewer mitigations in the coming weeks.
The governor addressed the status of the virus in the state during an unrelated event in Decatur on Tuesday. Gov. Pritzker says new hospitalizations related to COVID-19 have just started flattening. Despite that, it’s not enough to make changes just yet.
“We’ve got to really see the curve heading downward,� Pritzker said. “But I’m very hopeful of that. � And again, I’m very hopeful, and I pray for it every day that we can head back down and fewer mitigations and everybody getting back to a more normal way of life.�
Last Friday, Illinois health officials 25,636 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since Friday, Aug. 20.
The governor says the state will continue to watch the numbers.
“We all watch the numbers very closely,� Pritzker said. “And when they start to flatten out, that’s always good news. Always good news. The fact is that I think we’ve all lived through this long enough now to not jump the gun and say, oh, gosh, it’s flattened out, everything is so much better.�
Due to a rise in hospitalizations, the governor , regardless of vaccination status. The mandate went into effect on Monday.
