CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- now has three drive-thru clinics to help screen those who may have COVID-19 coronavirus.
To take part in the testing, patients must first call SIH's (1-844-988-7800). An electronic doctor鈥檚 order is required and will only be issued after triage through the hotline.
IMPORTANT NOTESPROVIDED BY SIH:
- The testing locations are not open to the public.
- The testing locations are specifically for patients with a provider鈥檚 referral through the hotline.
- SIH staff in personal protective equipment (PPE) will perform nasal swabs for COVID-19, flu and other respiratory illnesses through the driver鈥檚 side or passenger's side window.
- Patients will not have to leave their cars
鈥淲e want to keep people in the safest setting, both for their sake and the medical staff鈥檚 sake by limiting the amount of exposure,鈥 said Matthew Winkleman, MD, at SIH Primary Care Harrisburg. 鈥淭he best way to do that is to contact the hotline to evaluate the risk. Then we can determine the most appropriate place for testing.鈥
HOW IT WORKS
SIH will have the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and/or commercial laboratories perform the COVID-19 tests.
However, those tests will only be ordered after flu and other respiratory symptoms are ruled out.
