CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- COVID-19 has created many adjustments for SIU with many students eager to come back to the classroom.
Chancellor Austin Lane tells News 3 WSIL that idea is possible.
Thursday saying he's cautiously optimistic the upcoming school year will allow in-person learning at a larger capacity.
He tells us 45% of classes are online, 27% are face-to-face and 28% are hybrid.
He credits faculty and students for following all of the safety guidelines resulting in low positivity rates.
"Our fall enrollment is looking good right now. Applications are up, the number of students we're admitting is up and so we've got to make sure we can continue to communicate our plans that's why we wanted to put out something today so that they can make decisions and for our existing students, they want to know what's happening next," he said.
Lane says if everyone continues to follow the safety guidelines, he hopes the university will be able to return to normal.
