(WSIL) -- As the school year gets closer, districts are choosing between remote and in-person learning.

Trico Community School District 176 is working on a plan that would utilize both options.

The school sent out a survey during registration asking households about their remote learning needs, says network administrator Justin Morgan.

He says roughly 60 to 70 families are in need of resources like devices and stronger internet access. Morgan says the school plans to distribute the devices they have while they wait for more devices and hotspots to arrive.

Morgan says parents may have to wait until December.

"Hopefully the federal and state funds will come in and we'll get those orders in for those devices and hotspots," Morgan said. "Then we'll have to wait to for [them] to get here."

Local internet provider Blip Networks is providing hotspots in places like parks and churches, so students can have access to stronger internet connections.

Co-owner Ian Ellison says the hotspots will allow students to directly connect to the school's network, at no cost to those students.

"If some programs become available we might be able to get some help with those initial up front costs," Ellison said. "This is something we've always done to work with our communities."

The school district is holding a meeting Monday night to determine if they'll move forward with the hybrid model. Morgan says it will be an adjustment period for students, staff and parents.

"We're doing the best that we can do to train our students and staff members first so that they can work with the students on the days that we have them here," Morgan said.
