SPARTA, Il (WSIL) -- Illinois governor JB Pritzker held a press conference at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in Sparta Tuesday to announce two major events coming to the state-owned complex in the coming days and months.

First, the WSRC will host a mass vaccination clinic Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone 18 years of age and older who gets vaccinated at the site will receive 100 free trap, skeet or sporting clays for use at the shooting complex.

Next, the governor announced the Amateur Trapshooting Association Grand American World Trapshooting Championships would return in 2021. The event, which draws thousands from around the globe was canceled last year due to COVID-19, a decision which Priztker drew harsh criticism. The Grand American will return August 4.

State representative David Friess (R-Red Bud) says getting vaccinated is the best way to return the state to normal.

"I can't stress this enough. Everybody here's wearing a mask. If you want to get rid of the mask--get a vaccine. Everybody that I've talked to wants to quote 'get back to normal' the way we are going to do that is get vaccinated."

The WSRC vaccination clinic will offer the single dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Walk-ins are welcome, but to make an appointment,
