...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT /1 PM EDT/ SATURDAY TO 7 PM
CDT /8 PM EDT/ TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values between 100 to 108 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From noon CDT /1 PM EDT/ Saturday to 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will cause heat impacts to be greater than
normal.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

WHO declares COVID-19 a pandemic one year ago today

(WREX) � It's officially been one year since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 as a pandemic.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of WHO, said at a briefing in Geneva on this date last year that the agency is “deeply concerned by the alarming levels of spread and severity� of the outbreak.

He also expressed concern about “the alarming levels of inaction.�

In the past year, there's been more than 118 million confirmed cases of the virus across the world, according to Johns Hopkins University.

More than 2,600,000 people have died from the virus, including 529,267 Americans who have lost their life to the virus, per Johns Hopkins University.

President Joe Biden will use his first prime-time address since taking office to steer the nation toward hope in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic tonight at 7 p.m.
