Amidst the daily hustle, there exists an organization in Southern Illinois that's reshaping the narrative for individuals with disabilities within the faith community. Rolling in Faith, led by founder Hadley Stephens, is a beacon of inclusivity and support, diligently working to ensure that individuals with disabilities receive the respect and dignity they deserve. As part of the #GiveSI initiative, Rolling in Faith stands out "For Good, Forever, For Southern Illinois."
Born from a blog that explored the intersection of Christianity and disability, Rolling in Faith (RIF) has evolved into a faith-based haven, providing fellowship and enrichment skills to people living with disabilities. The organization offers a range of activities and training, from events to camps, all done within a faith-based setting. What sets RIF apart is its leadership; as someone with a disability, Hadley Stephens brings a profound understanding and personal insight to the organization's mission.
The core of RIF's mission is to instill purpose, passion, and a sense of belonging in our friends with disabilities. The organization's vision is to be a community leader locally and nationally, ensuring that people with disabilities have the opportunity to engage fully in the community with the support and resources they need to thrive.
RIF operates Holland House, a faith-based day program designed to be a sanctuary for adults with intellectual disabilities. Here, participants can maintain and enhance their skills, grow spiritually, and foster interpersonal relationships. Holland House is not just about skill-building; it's a place where participants can carve out their individual paths in society, demonstrating the invaluable contributions people with disabilities offer.
Volunteers are integral to the success of RIF's programs, assisting participants and ensuring that each person receives tailored support. The organization emphasizes community, authenticity, respect, and growth values that permeate every program and interaction.
Recently, RIF established an endowed fund with the Southern Illinois Community Foundation in honor of a cherished participant, Heather May. This fund ensures the organization's longevity, allowing it to continue serving the community while paying tribute to Heather's influence and memory.
Rolling in Faith's programs, including Holland House, come with a tuition fee, but financial aid may be available for those in need. The organization does not accept the Medicaid Waiver at present, focusing on its independent operation and the specific support it provides.
