MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- Meet Bess, a three year old pitbull mix, in search of her "Furever Home."
"She came here from a situation where somebody found her tied to a pole, starving and pregnant. She obviously has a had a terrible begining to her life," says Diane Daugherty, President of the Board at St. Francis CARE.
Daugherty says Bess is one of their longest residents. "She's been here 147 days. That's way too long to be in a shelter. Even though she does love it here and we love her, she needs her own family. She needs her own couch."
Daugherty says Bess loves attention she just needs some time to warm up to you. "She is so sweet. She just need somebody to have some patience with her. What I would recommend is a home visit where you can take her home and have her get adjusted to you because that's what it's going to take. She has got to learn to trust you because I you know, tied to a pole pregnant, who does that?"
Bess seems to get along with everyone, but Daugherty says introducing her to a calm setting is best. "If you have kids and other dogs I would try to introduce her to a quiet household in the beginning. Let her get use to one or two people before you start inundating her with a bunch of kids and a bunch of other dogs because that will probably scare her."
Bess' adoption fee is $125. She is up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped.
"We want them to have their own family by now but she's just waiting for the right one," adds Daugherty.
