10 people injured during explosion at Paducah Dippin Dot facility

PADUCAH (WSIL) -- Ten people have been injured during an explosion in Paducah Wednesday afternoon.

Robin Newberry, Paducah Police spokeswoman, confirmed the explosion took place late this afternoon at a Dippin' Dot owned facility on Industrial Drive. The facility is not the one where they make the ice cream, but where ingredients for a third party company are produced.

Newberry said the 10 injured were taken to the two local hospitals, Baptist Health Paducah and Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital. All ten were able to walk out of the building on their own.

Newberry says a truck was unloading liquid nitrogen when the explosion took place. It's still unclear what caused the explosion.

Multiple crews are on scene, including Paducah Police and Fire Department.

Dippin' Dots is expected to release a statement later this evening.
