
POPE COUNTY, IL (WSIL) -- The is a tradition in southern Illinois and is returning for its 64th year.Ìý
The festival is always celebrated the weekend before Thanksgiving week. Organizers say, "It's a cause for school to let out and tree stands to fill as the quest for prize-winning bucks begins on the opening day of 1st shotgun season."Â
However, activities are spread out over three days:
- November 21st:Â Jr. Mr. Ms. Pageant in the evening
- November 22nd: High school pageant
- November 23rd: Parade down Main Street, food vendors, and merchandise vendors set up on the courtyard
The parade is at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will include themed floats, classic cars, and fire trucks. Plus, marching bands put on a show and throw out tons of candy to the kiddos lining downtown sidewalks.Ìý
