HERRIN, ILLINOIS (WSIL) -- The Elks' River to River All Corvette Car Show is helping to support special projects in our region.
More than 30 cars were on display Saturday morning with dozens of spectators out looking at the vehicles before the rain set in.
Despite starting the event in 2017, this is only the third year the group has been able to hold the car show. It was rained out in 2019 and canceled due to COVID in 2020.
This year, heavy rains cut the afternoon short but participants and visitors made the best of the time that they were there.
Dennis Avripas, who is one of the organizers with Herrin Elks Lodge, says it began as a goal to give back and do good for others.
"So then we came up with the idea of the show, at the same time there was nothing in this area like this," he recalls. "So it made sense to try to pull all the owners together to get a good, regular, annual show that we could use for good projects."
In past years, the show has benefitted the Herrin City Cemetery. These proceeds will go to Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois.
