CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) —Carbondale residents have an opportunity to meet the two finalists for the Chief of Police position.
The city is hosting a public meet-and-greet on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carbondale Police Department.
Officials say the event lets the community learn about the candidates' backgrounds, ask about the future of public safety, and give direct input on the candidates.
Carbondale City Manager Stan Reno says, “We want our next Chief to reflect the values of our city, and community input is vital to making the right choice.
The meet-and-greet is free to the public.
In January of this year, the city appointed Acting Chief of Police Anthony Williams. Since that point, Reno has remained police chief, while Williams has carried out day-to-day responsibilities within the department.Â
City officials say this was a temporary fix while they conducted a nationwide search for someone to fill the police chief role permanently.Â
