Police reminding residents on Super Bowl party safety

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) Many people across the region are planning for an eventful Sunday ahead of the Super Bowl. If you're planning on hosting a party, Carbondale Police say it's important to follow some reminders to ensure the safety of you and your guests.

Authorities recommend having a plan for designated parking to avoid any issues with neighbors or surrounding businesses.

They also say to ensure only those that are 21 years or older consume alcohol and to have non-alcoholic drinks available for designated drivers and those below the legal drinking age.

Police say it's also helpful to set a time when alcohol consumption ends, to give your guests time to sober up before leaving.

If guests that drink plan on heading home after the party, Carbondale Police say to make sure there are available ride services or a designated driver.

For any emergencies or if you do see an impaired driver on the road, you're always urged to contact the police.Â
