MARION (WSIL) -- It was a cold start to the work week with our first wide spread freeze across the region.

Which means it's almost time to put away the lawn mowers and weed eaters for the season.

Although the grass will soon be dormant, Tim Arnold, Owner of Accu-Grow in Marion, says there are still plenty of lawn jobs to be done in the fall and winter months.

"Right now we're still fertilizing all of our yards, getting them ready for winter. The still need that fertilizer to give them that energy for a spring green up. We're also aerating lawns right now, with moisture in the lawn, opening up the soil," says Arnold.

Arnold says winter is a good time to prune and trim shrubs because you don't put them under stress.

He also says to clean up leaf build up around your plants to prevent fungus and disease.
