Boil water order

RIDGWAY, Ill. -- UPDATE: 5:10 p.m. -- The water main break has been repaired and a boil water order is now in place until further notice.

ORIGINAL: 3:35 p.m. -- The Village of Ridgway experienced a water main break which is affecting all their water customers on Thursday afternoon.

A representative with the Ridgway Water Department tells News 3 all of their customers are impacted as they work to fix the break in the water line.

The representative urges people there to use bottled water until the system is back up and running.

After the water main break is repaired, there will be a boil water order in effect until further notice.

It is unknown when the water will be back back to normal, but the representative reminds everyone to boil their water after it's fixed.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC), they recommend using bottled water or boiled water for drinking, cooking, food preparation, washing dishes, brushing teeth, mixing baby formula and filling water bowls for pets.

The CDC recommends bringing water to a full rolling boil for one minute, or three minutes at elevations above 6,500 feet. Then allow the water to cool before using it.

When washing hands with tap water during a boil water order, it's recommended to use soap and water, then using alcohol-based hand sanitizer and let them air dry.
