City of Cape Girardeau issues precautionary boil water advisory for entire city

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for water customers in Cape Girardeau on Monday morning.

A representative with the City of Cape Girardeau stated the precautionary boil water advisory was issued after a large water main break occurred near the Cape Rock Water Plant.

As of 4 p.m., the break has been repaired.

In the morning hours after the break, customers were informed to expect lower water pressure, according the city. They also said to boil and cool water before drinking it.

The boil water advisory is in effect until results from water testing are available by December 11.

The Cape Girardeau Public School District are affected as well. They alerted parents of the district about the impacts due to the precautionary boil water advisory.

The school stated nutrition services staff members will be following recommended precautions provided by the city in preparing lunch services.

Cape Girardeau schools have shut down water fountains throughout all their buildings in the city limits and are bringing in bottled water for students.

The school also stated bus routes may be impacted and running behind dropping off children after school as well.
