HICKMAN, Ky. (WSIL) -- The Dorena-Hickman Ferry is back open after a large amount of rainfall swept through the region in the past few days.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) stated they reopened on Sunday, September 29, after an extended closure due to low water levels.

The National Weather Service in Paducah reported on September 24, the river level at the Hickman gauge was at -1.1 feet. On September 29 at 10 a.m., the river level soared to 13.56 feet.

The forecast shows the river level at Hickman will continue to rise to 16.7 feet by October 1.
