MARION, Ill (WSIL) --- For the last 15 months, production times for furniture and appliances have been extended 4 to 5 months, making it difficult for stores to keep inventory and for consumers to buy.
These days, stores know ordering an appliance or new furniture is estimated to take 3-4 months.
"If we needed appliances today, and ship immediately, it would be very difficult," said Rent One's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Mark Williams.
Some appliances are more difficult to get in stock than others.
"Appliances like side by side refrigerators and French door are really difficult to get, even with projections or forecasts, they're difficult. We get small quantities every once in a while and that's about it," said Williams.
The limited appliances and long wait times can be attributed to multiple factors, such as COVID stalling manufacturing.
The price of raw materials has also gone up, bringing price increases between 10 to 20%.
And manufacturers say prices won't stop climbing or stay increased until 2022.
For now, stores have some advice for shoppers.
"Shop around. We definitely have a good inventory and some other retailers do as well. Ask questions. Ask how soon they're getting product and how often their getting product," said Williams.
Manufacturers predict the next items that will see a price increase are televisions.
