BENTON, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has kicked off their first annual "Cops, Community, Coats and Kids" winter coat drive.
The sheriff's office is requesting anyone in the community to help provide local elementary students with a coat to help keep them warm this winter.
These coats they are collecting can be new or like-new winter coats.
"As the chill of winter approaches, we're reaching out to you with a heartfelt request. Some of our local elementary school-aged children need your help and support to stay warm during the colder months. Many of these kids come from families facing financial challenges. A warm, winter coat can make all the difference," Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon stated.
They are collecting coats, sizes x-small through adult sizes. You may drop off the coats at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at 403 E. Main Street in Benton, Illinois, anytime through the end of November.
"Every coat you donate represents a gesture of kindness that will be felt by a child in need," Sheriff Bacon added. "Let's work together to keep our communities youngest members warm and thriving. Together, we can make a difference and show these kids that our community cares about them and that they are important!"
