MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- Several organizations in southern Illinois were given turkeys ahead of Thanksgiving thanks to a partnership between the Meridian Health Plan of Illinois and State Senator Terri Bryant on Monday.

Senator Bryant and members with the Meridian Health Plan of Illinois provided these turkeys to organizations in several communities throughout the 58th district.

“Providing these turkeys is about more than just food, it’s about giving families the chance to gather and share in the holiday traditions that make this season special, said Senator Bryant. “I’m deeply grateful to Meridian Health and the countless volunteers who made this possible.

Turkeys were donated to volunteer organizations in Mt. Vernon, Mt. Carmel, Fairfield and Sesser. These organizations will then use the turkeys to provide Thanksgiving dinners to those in need in their communities.

“Southern Illinois is filled with caring and compassionate people who have always stepped up to help their neighbors time and time again, continued Senator Bryant. “This turkey giveaway is just another example of how we can come together to ensure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a special Thanksgiving holiday.
