HARRISBURG, Ill. (WSIL)-- Our team has been following a story out of Saline County. Some people there say they've had problems getting their mail.

Charles Gillis says he has finally received some mail this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“My license renewal finally came. So everything so far has been okay this week. Good, Gillis said.

But last week he said he received nothing. Gillis says he even went to the post office to talk with the manager about it.

“I ask him what's going on with the mail. And he goes, 'Well I don't have anybody to deliver mail,' Gillis says the manager told him. “And I'm like, what do you mean you don't have anybody to deliver mail? He goes, 'Well, we just don't have enough help.'

Gillis says they were able to help him get some of his mail in the office, but he still hasn't received his most important mail, including his license plate renewal and life insurance policy.

“I got two weeks to pay that, Gillis says. “It has to go by mail. So, if it's gone, and it's not there in 10 days, then I lose my life insurance.

Gillis says that would be detrimental to his wife and himself, but he also worries for people who might depend on the mail to get other important things, like medicine and utility bills.

Sondra Bethel works with people with disabilities and says her company is responsible for helping them keep their lights on and water flowing.

She says her office has talked about how they can avoid this issue.

"Our utility bills are coming in, and when they come in they're like, due that day or past due, and then they're sending us a second notice or disconnect notice. So those are the types of things that we've been having problems with, Bethel said.

Bethel says she's not sure if her office reached out to the Postmaster, but Gillis says he has.

“Now I don't know if maybe they had a problem, but it seems like it should inform, Gillis says. “I'm just looking for answers.

Gillis says he was able to pay his policy on time this month, but hopes he doesn't have to worry about it again.
