CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Thousands gathered at the Show-Me-Center in Cape Girardeau over the weekend for the 19th Annual Cape Con.
Cape Con started on November 1, and ran through November 3. Ken Murphy is the Director of Cape Con. He tells us what this event means for the community.
"This is my home. This is where I live. Twenty-something years ago I went to San Diego for the international convention. 400-thousand people were there. It was a global event. I said I would one of those to Cape Girardeau, and here we are."
Part of Cape Con is having rising artists come and show their work. Gabe Fast is the Creative Director of Shock'em-Comics. He says Cape Con has a special place in his heart.
"You there is Comic Con all over the place, all over the country but you know being able to be in Springfield, Missouri, that is just a few hours away," Fast added. "Why would we not go? It's right in our backyard."
Cape Con brought together people from miles away. The Schuerman family drove from Arkansas for the event. They explain why comic con is special to them.
"It's not like anything else. It's really different," Schuerman said. "It's definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. You'll love it every single time. It's not a place of judgment. Everyone is different around here and it's okay to be different."
More than 4,500 people attended Cape Con. Officials from the event said they cannot wait until next year.
