8th grade student arrested after police find gun at school

UNION CITY, Tenn. -- An eighth grade student was arrested after police said a gun was brought to the school in Union City. 

Union City Schools stated a middle school student was taken into custody before classes were dismissed on Monday.

The Union City Police Department said school officials there received information from the Martin Police Department on Monday about the student and the weapon. 

A school resource officer found an 8th grade student and arrested them. Police stated there was a gun in the student's possession.

Police stated the student was charged with possession of a weapon on school property.

School administrators stressed there was no active threat.
