Carbondale Man Faces Gun Charges After Traffic Stop

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A 26-year-old man faces gun charges after traffic stop in Carbondale.

The Carbondale Police Department said officers stopped a vehicle in the 1000-block of East Grand Avenue at around 2:41 a.m. on June 22.

The driver was accused of not having a valid driver's license.

Police stated Levar D. Woods, 26 of Carbondale, was the driver of the vehicle. Woods is alleged to have had a gun in his possession.

Woods was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail. According to online court records, Woods faces charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Woods for July 16, 2024.

The investigation into this matter is still active and ongoing, police stated.

I commend the officers involved in this arrest for their quick response and professionalism during this traffic stop, which undoubtedly prevented potential harm in the Carbondale community,� Interim City Manager and Police Chief Stan Reno said.
