Carbondale police arrest 18-year-old in connection to shooting incident

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Carbondale police responded to a report of a shot fired on April 26, 2025, in the 200 block of West College Street.

After police got to the scene, they said they were told a person shot at them from a silver Dodge Journey.

Officers later found the vehicle in the 700 block of West College Street and arrested the suspect they identified as Deiajion Nichols, 18 of Carbondale. Police said this incident was a result of a personal dispute.

Nichols was cited with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Assault and Unlawful Use of a Weapon charges.

Nichols was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

No injuries were reported from the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
