Franklin County jury finds convicted felon guilty of owning a firearm

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) A DuQuoin man is awaiting sentencing following a guilty verdict by a jury in Franklin County for an arrest in 2023.

Court documents state that in September of 2023, Sesser Police conducted a traffic stop on 42-year-old Marcus Moore.

Police say Moore failed the field sobriety test and fled on foot.

When police caught up to Moore, they found that he had a gun on his ankle.

The U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern Illinois District says that in 2007, Moore became a convicted felon, which legally prohibits him from owning a firearm.

In a statement by U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft, he says, "To help protect the public and keep guns away from dangerous individuals, convicted felons lose the right to legally possess firearms. As this case demonstrates, the U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work to hold repeat criminal offenders accountable."

Moore is scheduled to be sentenced on October 7th at the federal courthouse in Benton.
