Gorham woman charged in Christopher assault and theft case

CHRISTOPHER, Ill. (WSIL) -- Officers from the Christopher Police Department, with help from the Zeigler Police Department, responded to an assault report on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, in rural Christopher, Illinois.

Upon arrival, Christopher police officers said they found an 80-year-old male victim outside his home with visible facial injuries. Police said their investigation revealed that his caretaker allegedly tried to steal personal items and money, attacking him when confronted.

While clearing the residence, police said the officers encountered a female suspect with a knife-like object. Police then disarmed her, but she resisted arrest and fought with officers, damaging property in the process, the Christopher Police Department reported.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Jessica L. Sims from Gorham, Illinois, was taken into custody. She faces several charges, including aggravated battery, burglary, theft and resisting arrest.

Sims was transported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office following the incident.
