Herrin Police Investigate Two Shots Fired Incidents Believed to be Connected

HERRIN, Ill. -- Police in Herrin are looking for video surveillance in regards to two shooting incidents on Wednesday.

The Herrin Police Department first said officers responded to the 600-block of S. 12th Street at 1:35 a.m. on July 3 in reference to a shots fired call. There they said they found a house was hit by a bullet, however, nobody was reported injured.

This incident is still under investigation.

Several hours later at 11:05 a.m., Herrin police officers responded to the 700-block of W. Tyler Street in reference to a house which was shot.

Once officers got to the scene, they spoke with area witnesses in regards to the shooting call. Police said a Gray Dodge Avenger was seen leaving the area of where the shooting took place. Multiple shots were reported to have been shot from the area of the vehicle and into a home.

Again, no injuries were reported with this incident as well.

Herrin police said they later found the suspected vehicle at a home on W. Oak Street.

When an officer tried to talk with someone there at the home where the suspected car was found at, police said multiple males and females then ran away to the north side of the home.

Multiple area police agencies set up a perimeter of the area where they suspect they ran to.

Herrin police said multiple people have been identified and are suspected to be involved in the incident.

Police also said they believe both of the shots fired called incidents are related. Both of the incidents are still under investigation.

"We believe both shootings are contained incidents to all parties involved and that there is no threat to the general public at this time," Herrin police said in a release.
