Man arrested after more than 400 pounds of marijuana found during traffic stop in Jefferson County

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. -- Illinois State Police made an arrest in an investigation involving more than 400 pounds of marijuana which was discovered in a vehicle.

It happened on January 17, at 11:41 a.m. along Interstate 64 near mile marker 71 in Jefferson County. 

An Illinois State Police (ISP) Trooper was on patrol in the area and pulled over a vehicle was reportedly going over the speed limit.

Once the trooper spoke with the driver, the trooper started smelling a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, ISP said in a release.

ISP stated more than 400 pounds was removed from the vehicle, taken out with the assistance from the ISP Southern Illinois Drug Task Force.

Authorities arrested Mikhail V. Subbotin, 48 of Lawrenceville, Georgia. He was charged with possession of cannabis - more than 5,000 grams, cannabis trafficking and possession with intent to deliver cannabis.
