MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- We're digging deeper Wednesday evening into the case of a Mount Vernon man arrested after breaking into a woman's home and beating her with a bat.
Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department arrested Dontae Harris.
He is now charged by the Jefferson County State's Attorney with home invasion, aggravated robbery and armed violence.
"It's the first home invasion like this, that I recall in recent months. I mean they do happen, where people will force their way into residents and batter other people, it can happen for a variety of reasons," said Mount Vernon Police Chief Trent Page
Harris is accused of breaking into the woman's home on the 1500 block of Jones Street last Thursday. He beat her with a bat after they got into an argument possibly over money.
The victim has been treated and released from a Saint Louis area hospital with minor injuries.
Bond for Harris has been set at $750,000.
