MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. -- A 66-year-old man is in jail after law enforcement investigate a vehicle vs pedestrian incident which left one person dead.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said it happened on January 13, at 11 p.m. Deputies responded to the area of Kentucky Dam Road and Kenmar Road for a vehicle vs. pedestrian report.
Once they got there, the deputies found a male which was deceased. The sheriff's office said he was hit by a vehicle.
The deputies then sent out to area agencies the suspected vehicle description.
Moments later, a Benton police officer found a vehicle matching the description. It was also described as having some damage to it which was consistent to the earlier collision.聽
The officer then pulled the vehicle over on West Fifth Street in Benton.
At this point, a deputy with the McCracken County Sheriff's Office then came over there to assist.
The suspected vehicle was a 2007 Chevrolet truck which was driven by Anthony E. Farmer, 66 of Benton, the sheriff's office said.
A deputy there then impounded the vehicle and Farmer was then taken to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said Farmer confessed to being involved in the collision when detectives interviewed him.
Farmer faces a charge of leaving the scene of an accident/fail to render aid with death or serious physical injury.
The investigation is ongoing.
Assisting the sheriff's office in the investigation was the Benton Police Department, Kentucky State Police, McCracken County Coroner's Office, Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, McCracken County DES and Reidland Farly Fire Rescue.
