SALINE COUNTY (WSIL) -- A Saline County man will spend more than a decade behind bars for severely injuring a child.

Saline Co. State's Attorney Molly Kasiar announced Friday Brandon K. Ford, of Harrisburg, pled guilty to aggravated battery of a child. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison and 3 years supervised release.

Back in June 2019 Ford was arrested for shaking his 3-month-old baby Bryson, causing critical injuries. The baby was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children's hospital after showing up at the emergency room with "Shaken Baby Syndrome."

State's Attorney Kasiar said she is hopeful this sentence will act as a deterrent against child abuse, and will educate the public about the serious, life-altering injuries and consequences that occur when a baby is shaken.

Shaking a baby can be fatal or may leave the child permanently disabled, as the child was in this case.
