FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- A 36-year-old faces multiple charges including murder after his brother died in relation to a domestic violence incident.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said their department was notified by a nearby hospital at 3:33 a.m. on July 25, about a person whose injuries they were treating after a reported domestic violence incident.

The injuries were stated as significant and the patient was in a critical status, the sheriff's office detailed.

Deputies then were provided an address of where the incident may have occurred at. Deputies later found a man outside of a home at this address.

Authorities identified this man as Kyle G. Morris, 36 of West Frankfort. He was reported as the brother of the person in the hospital.

The sheriff's office investigated and suspect a verbal argument occurred and allege Morris hit his brother, Justin D. Hauptman, 46 of West Frankfort, in the head.

Morris was then arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail where he faced Aggravated Battery and Domestic Battery charges.

On the morning of July 31, the sheriff's office said they were contacted by the hospital where they were informed Mr. Hauptman died from his injuries.

An autopsy was performed which indicated the cause of death was blunt force trauma of the head.

Morris was then charged with murder, the sheriff's office said.

Morris remains in the Franklin County Jail at this time.

The case is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services and the Jackson County Coroner's Office.
