...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT /1 PM EDT/ TODAY TO
7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values 100 to 108 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From noon CDT /1 PM EDT/ today to 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will amplify health impacts. Health impacts
will build with each successive day in the heat and humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Suspect charged in fatal Mt. Vernon shooting

MT. VERNON (WSIL) -- The Jefferson County State's Attorney's Office has filed murder and robbery charges in a in Mt. Vernon.

Traviel C. Gibson, 30, is charged with three counts of first degree murder and one count of robbery.

Around 11 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 1800 block of Cherry Street. A woman told officers a man attacked her and stole her cell phone.

When officers arrived, they discovered a man dead on the front porch and a second man, later identified as Traviel Gibson, in the home refusing to come out.

The Jefferson County Coroner identified the victim as Sam Gibson, 48, of Mt. Vernon.

One officer suffered minor injuries taking Gibson into custody.

Gibson is being held at the Jefferson County Justice Center on $3 million bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 2.
