Two face charges after leaving children in vehicle while going to casino, other arrests in Metropolis last week

METROPOLIS, Ill. -- Police in one southern Illinois community have released an arrest report from last week. These arrests range from felony charges to drug charges.

The Metropolis Police Department detailed the calls they responded to below for the second half of September...

Metropolis officers said on September 16, officers went out to Harrah's Casino where they met with security there who said there were children left inside a vehicle in the parking lot.

Police started investigating and said a 10-year-old and 2-year-old were left inside a white Dodge Ram pick-up truck while the parents were inside the casino.

The parents were found soon thereafter. They were identified as Joseph D. Scott, 30, and Kyra D. Scott, 38, both of Colorado Springs, Co. They were both face child neglect charges and were taken to the Metropolis Police Department and released on a notice to appear. Police said DCFS was also contacted and the children were released back to their parents.

September 27, 2023

  • Metropolis officer stopped a red Toyota Scion on US 45 and A&K drive. The officer recognized the driver and was aware that he had a suspended drivers license. A computer check confirmed that the driver, Austin L. Sumnlers28, Brookport still had a suspended drivers license. Sumnlers was charged and released on a notice to appear.

September 28, 2023

  • Metropolis Officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 1200 block of Girard. A computer check revealed that Antonio M. Jones, 43, Paducah, KY was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for failure to appear- Domestic Battery. Jones was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
  • A Metropolis Officer observed Michael E. McPeak,57, Grantsburg, IL sitting in a vehicle parked in the Fairmount Apartments Parking lot. The officer was aware that McPeak was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for failure to appear â€� possession of Methamphetamine. McPeak was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
  • A Metropolis Officer ran a computer check on a registration which came back cancelled. A traffic stop was conducted on US 45 and Mary’s Lane. A computer check on the driver, David L. Bulick,44, Brookport revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. He had not proof of insurance. Bulick was charged with driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle with cancelled registration and having an open title. Bulick was released on a notice to appear.
  • While on patrol, a Metropolis officer observed a white Dodge pick-up truck driving erratically on 5 th St. The vehicle was weaving and almost struck another vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and the officer observed signs of impairment. The driver, Vath Southammavong,52, Lake Park, FL failed the field sobriety tests. He was charged with improper lane usage, DUI and Dui with a BAC over .08. He was released on a notice to appear.
